A weekend of faces I forgot I missed

Daily Journal Prompts - 21 April 2025

Over the past few days, I’ve been back in my hometown.

My dad passed away a few years ago, and my mum has since moved back home.

This was the first time my brother, his wife, my wife, and I were travelling together to see her.

We took the opportunity to host a small party to reconnect with our extended family.

I hadn’t met many of them in over 10 years. And most of them had never met my wife yet.

And yet, as the evening unfolded, it felt familiar very quickly.

Laughter came easily. Conversations shifted fuidly between old memories and new updates.

It made me realise something: there are people we forget we miss — until we see them again.

It’s good to remember who we’ve shared parts of our lives with, and how those bonds shape us more than we realise.

It’s motivated me to reconnect with more old friends and family in the coming days and months.

That’s what this week’s prompts are about: connection.

This Week’s Prompts (Monday - Wednesday):

Relationships that ground us

1 - Who in my life feels like an anchor, no matter how much time has passed?

2 - Which relationships have quietly faded, but still matter to me? What’s stopping me from reaching out?

The way I connect with others

1 - What kind of relationship do I want with my family moving forward?

2 - What kind of friend do I want to be right now?

Finding belonging in community

1 - When was the last time I felt a genuine sense of belonging in a group, and what made it feel that way?

2 - What kind of community do I want to be part of, and how can I start contributing to it?

Get the most out of your journalling:

  • Choose one prompt: Focus on just one prompt each day to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

  • Be brutally honest: Reflect openly and honestly. This is your safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings.

  • Take your time: Sometimes it takes a few days to clarify your thinking. Here’s permission for you to take your time to unravel a prompt and not take on any new ones during that time.

  • Journal your way: Whether you prefer writing, audio recording, or video, choose the method that suits you best.

  • Don't stress about streaks: If you miss a day, don't worry. You can always revisit a previous prompt.

I’d love your feedback
