Anti-goals
Daily Journal Prompts - 26 January 2025
Recently, I’ve been tracking anti-goal actions as part of my daily habit-tracking.
An anti-goal is the opposite of what you want in life.
Instead of defining success, you define what failure feels like and work to avoid it.
It’s about identifying what drains your energy, makes you unhappy, or feels unsustainable, and then plan your life to eliminate these.
I’ve been tracking my anti-goals the same way I track my habits, and I find it more impactful than actually tracking my habits. There’s something about avoiding doing something that motivates me more than doing something.
I’ll test it for a few more months then decide if I want to make a complete switch.
Here are some of my anti-goals:
No multi-tasking when I’m working vs saying that I will focus
No overcommitting socially.
No calendars without deep-focus work sessions.
No meetings are agreed upon where I will bemoan my having said yes.
What are some of your anti-goals?
Today’s Prompts
Anti-goals
What would your “worst day” look like? How can you design your life to avoid it?
What behaviors do you notice in others that you want to avoid adopting?
What types of tasks make you procrastinate the most?
How can you design a life that feels intentional and avoids “auto-pilot” living?
Get the most out of your journalling:
Choose one prompt: Focus on just one prompt each day to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
Be brutally honest: Reflect openly and honestly. This is your safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings.
Take your time: Sometimes it takes a few days to clarify your thinking. Here’s permission for you to take your time to unravel a prompt and not take on any new ones during that time.
Journal your way: Whether you prefer writing, audio recording, or video, choose the method that suits you best.
Don't stress about streaks: If you miss a day, don't worry. You can always revisit a previous prompt.
I’d love your feedback
