Are you taking enough risks?
Daily Journal Prompts - 4 January 2025
Early in my career in a PR firm, I was offered a chance to lead an account for a new client we had won.
I turned it down. I was very comfortable where I was, and my existing clients liked me. A new client could mean trouble—a new relationship to build, potentially longer hours, and more work.
Over the next year, I watched as my colleagues managing the account had a blast, doing extremely fun work (yes, with longer hours) and ending the year with industry recognition for a great campaign and personal rewards in the form of promotions and bonuses.
I thought long and hard about whether I made the right choice.
What if I had said yes to the opportunity, but it was a bad decision?
In hindsight, the cost of staying comfortable meant that I did not grow much in an entire year. I was doing the same work I had mastered. Whether the move ended well or badly didn’t matter because, one way or another, the new experience would have led to personal growth.
My relationship with risk forever changed after that, and I started considering the hidden costs of not making a decision in my decision-making process.
Today’s Prompts
Risk-taking
Are you taking enough risks in your life? How would you like to change your relationship to risk?

The 'If you don’t have time’ Prompt
What is my most important task today (or tomorrow if you are writing this at night)?
Get the most out of your journalling:
Choose one prompt: Focus on just one prompt each day to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
Be brutally honest: Reflect openly and honestly. This is your safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings.
Take your time: Sometimes it takes a few days to clarify your thinking. Here’s permission for you to take your time to unravel a prompt and not take on any new ones during that time.
Journal your way: Whether you prefer writing, audio recording, or video, choose the method that suits you best.
Don't stress about streaks: If you miss a day, don't worry. You can always revisit a previous prompt.
I’d love your feedback
