Closing a negative journal entry

Daily Journal Prompts - 5 November 2024

Last week, I came across a question repeated quite often on journaling-related forums.

Here’s a snapshot of the question:

“When I write about something that made me really angry during the day I just get angry all over again and I feel frustrated and don’t know what to do with myself after.

How do you cool down after getting difficult emotions when journaling?

Here’s my hack to deal with this:

Once you complete your journal entry, write down one last line "Having put my thoughts down, I have removed my anger and frustration and will no longer let this issue trouble me. I am indestructible."

Sounds cheesy - but it is effective. Please adapt the text as you see fit! Here are a few other options:

“I have expressed my thoughts fully and am now ready to leave this in the past and move forward.”

“With my feelings on paper, I am creating room for patience and calm.”

“Writing this down has cleared my mind, and I am choosing to let this issue go.”

The original thread is here.

Today’s Prompts

Building Resilience

What three things can I learn from this situation, even if it feels uncomfortable?

How can I let go of this emotion and replace it with something that makes me feel calm?

If I were to look back on this in a year, what positive outcome might have come from this experience?

The 'If you don’t have time’ Prompt

What small action can I take to feel better or more in control of my day?

Get the most out of your journalling:

  • Choose one prompt: Focus on just one prompt each day to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

  • Be brutally honest: Reflect openly and honestly. This is your safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings.

  • Take your time: Sometimes it takes a few days to clarify your thinking. Here’s permission for you to take your time to unravel a prompt and not take on any new ones during that time.

  • Journal your way: Whether you prefer writing, audio recording, or video, choose the method that suits you best.

  • Don't stress about streaks: If you miss a day, don't worry. You can always revisit a previous prompt.

I’d love your feedback
