Defining success
Daily Journal Prompts - 18 February 2025
For most of my early career, success had a clear definition — earning more money.
I was amongst the first few hires at a startup PR agency, and while I started at a low pay, I was promoted frequently and my pay rose quickly.
But then something shifted.
Instead of the work being a means to higher pay, I started caring about the work itself — was I doing something meaningful? Was I creating something I was proud of? Success became about doing good work, building skills, and gaining experiences.
As my second boss used to say, “Focus on the work, money will come.”
Money became a secondary measure of success,
And now, as I build my own business, my definition of success has evolved yet again.
It’s a mixture of creating something that lasts, and gaining financial growth to enable freedom.
Here’s the thing: success looks different for everyone.
We all start from different places, with different priorities, challenges, and dreams.
Someone else’s definition of success doesn’t have to be yours. What matters is whether your definition serves you.
So, how do you define success? And has that definition changed over time?
Today’s Prompt
