Why gratitude is so powerful

I love my wife. She’s truly a remarkable woman who has made me a better person. (No, we did not fight, and she did not ask me to say this!)

There’s something special in the power of gratitude and how expressing it can impact our mental and emotional well-being.

In one study involving nearly 300 adults, those who wrote a gratitude letter once a week for just three weeks reported significantly better mental health even 12 weeks after their last writing exercise.

The simple act of focusing on the positive aspects of life, like appreciating loved ones, shifted their attention away from daily struggles, strengthening their ability to recall positive memories.

That is truly remarkable and the easiest hack to bring positivity into your life quickly. It’s also the inspiration for today’s journal prompts.

Today’s Prompts

1 - Gratitude

Reflect on my three most significant relationships (E.g. friends, parents, partner, children). What am I grateful to them for?

2 - Gratitude

How can I show appreciation to a colleague next week?

3 - Quote of the day

"Gratitude is not only the greatest of virtues, but the parent of all others.” - Cicero

4 - The 'If you don’t have time’ Prompt

Who am I grateful for today? Describe why in 2 sentences.

Get the most out of your journalling:

  • Choose one prompt: Focus on just one prompt each day to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

  • Be brutally honest: Reflect openly and honestly. This is your safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings.

  • Take your time: Sometimes it takes a few days to clarify your thinking. Here’s permission for you to take your time to unravel a prompt and not take on any new ones during that time.

  • Journal your way: Whether you prefer writing, audio recording, or video, choose the method that suits you best.

  • Don't stress about streaks: If you miss a day, don't worry. You can always revisit a previous prompt.

I’d love your feedback
