Fifteen more times

Daily Journal Prompts - 8 May 2025

I read something recently in The 5 Types of Wealth by Sahil Bloom that truly stopped me in my tracks.

In the opening pages, Sahil recounts a conversation with a friend who had begun focusing more on what really matters after his father got sick:

Friend: How often do you see your parents?

Sahil: Maybe once a year now.

Friend: And how old are they?

Sahil: Mid-sixties.

Friend: Okay, so you're going to see your parents fifteen more times before they die.

That line hit me hard.

My mum is 66 this year.

She's relatively healthy and energetic; I’ve been fortunate to spend a good amount of time with her in the last six months.

But still, that number — fifteen — made me pause.

Sure, it may be a little more than that, but seeing a number like that puts things into context.

How many more weekends? How many more meals together? How many more times will we tease each other?

It’s not just about parents either. It’s about everyone we love.

We always assume we have time. That we’ll catch up soon.

That we’ll make time when it’s less busy. But time doesn’t wait for a less busy week.

With Mother’s Day coming up this Sunday, I thought this would be a good moment for reflection on how we can make the most of the time we still have with those who matter most.

Here are your prompts for the rest of the week.

Today’s Prompts

Making Time Count

1 - Who is someone I don’t see often, but wish I did? What’s stopping me from reaching out?

2 - How do I want to show up for the people I love — now, not someday?

Mother’s Day Reflections

1 - What is one memory with my mother (or a mother figure) that I cherish deeply? What made it special?

2 - How has my relationship with my mother evolved over time? What would I like it to become?

Being Present

1 - When was the last time I was truly present with someone I care about? What did that feel like?

2 If I knew I had only a few more moments with someone, what would I want to say or do?

Get the most out of your journalling:

  • Choose one prompt: Focus on just one prompt each day to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

  • Be brutally honest: Reflect openly and honestly. This is your safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings.

  • Take your time: Sometimes it takes a few days to clarify your thinking. Here’s permission for you to take your time to unravel a prompt and not take on any new ones during that time.

  • Journal your way: Whether you prefer writing, audio recording, or video, choose the method that suits you best.

  • Don't stress about streaks: If you miss a day, don't worry. You can always revisit a previous prompt.

I’d love your feedback
