Finding your purpose

Daily Journal Prompts - 7 October 2024

I used to hate hearing that phrase.

It’s so easy to throw around, but no one tells you HOW to find your purpose.

I hypothesise that most people who use the phrase are equally unsure of their purpose.

I believe that figuring out our purpose is fruitless, and we should instead spend time doing what will give us growth, enjoyment, and happiness.

It took me a few years to clarify what to do with my life. I was doing well in corporate but felt I could do much more.

I knew it had to be something I would enjoy, something that challenged me, and something I had the skills for or could learn.

The answer didn’t come immediately.

Eventually, I came up with some ideas that fit. And even longer until I felt confident enough to take the plunge and switch careers.

I’m sharing some of the prompts that helped me figure this out.

I hope you also gain clarity!

Today’s Prompts

1 - Finding your path

What would I do if I knew I couldn’t fail?

2 - Finding your path

When do I feel most alive? What activities make me lose track of time?

3 - Finding your path

What problems in the world am I passionate about solving? What skills or talents come naturally to me?

4 - Finding your path

If I could write a letter to my future self, what would I want to say about my journey towards finding my path?

5 - Finding your path

How do I define success for myself?

6 - The 'If you don’t have time’ Prompt

What can I change today to feel more aligned with my values?

Get the most out of your journalling:

  • Choose one prompt: Focus on just one prompt each day to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

  • Be brutally honest: Reflect openly and honestly. This is your safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings.

  • Take your time: Sometimes it takes a few days to clarify your thinking. Here’s permission for you to take your time to unravel a prompt and not take on any new ones during that time.

  • Journal your way: Whether you prefer writing, audio recording, or video, choose the method that suits you best.

  • Don't stress about streaks: If you miss a day, don't worry. You can always revisit a previous prompt.

I’d love your feedback
