Focusing on just one thing per day

Daily Journal Prompts - 7 November 2024

Growing up, my mum nicknamed me “one thing at a time” because that’s how I ate.

I would finish the cauliflower, then have the potato, followed by the meat, without mixing food up or the order in which I ate.

I would do the same with most other things, whether studying, household chores or personal hygiene. Always complete one thing thoroughly before moving on to the next.

For some reason, that never really translated to work. For years, I was swamped, constantly multitasking, and struggling to meet deadlines.

Since starting my solopreneurship journey, I’ve brought my “one thing at a time” philosophy to my work, which has supercharged my productivity.

I focus on just one big task each day. That’s it.

Despite having a super long to-do list and the stress of not earning income yet, I have never been so productive yet relaxed about work.

Weirdly enough, by slowing down, I’ve completed big projects quicker, gotten more focused deep-work sessions in, and still have time for the nitty gritty parts of running a business while being present in my marriage.

Today’s prompts are about reviewing your productivity methods.

Today’s Prompts

Productivity

What are my biggest challenges with productivity, and how do they impact my daily life?

How often do I feel satisfied with my productivity at the end of the day? What could I change about my daily approach to improve my productivity?

Quote of the day

“Productivity is never an accident. It is always the result of a commitment to excellence, intelligent planning, and focused effort.” – Paul J. Meyer

The 'If you don’t have time’ Prompt

If I could only complete one task today, what would it be, and why?

Get the most out of your journalling:

  • Choose one prompt: Focus on just one prompt each day to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

  • Be brutally honest: Reflect openly and honestly. This is your safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings.

  • Take your time: Sometimes it takes a few days to clarify your thinking. Here’s permission for you to take your time to unravel a prompt and not take on any new ones during that time.

  • Journal your way: Whether you prefer writing, audio recording, or video, choose the method that suits you best.

  • Don't stress about streaks: If you miss a day, don't worry. You can always revisit a previous prompt.

I’d love your feedback
