Follow the energy, not the clock
Daily Journal Prompts - 24 April 2025
I love travelling.
It always somehow changes the way I think about one aspect of my life or another.
Usually, I’m either working full-time on these trips or I’m completely on holiday.
But now that I’m running my own business, it’s a strange mix of both.
On this trip back home, I’ve been working in whatever pockets of time I can find.
Sometimes, that’s at 5 am, and sometimes at 4 pm.
The rest of the day is spent with family.
And it’s shifted the way I think about time.
Back home, I follow a relatively fixed daily routine.
However, I’ve come to plan each day on the fly, based on my priorities and energy levels.
Surprisingly, I’ve been more productive — and more relaxed.
There’s always time to do what matters.
This trip has made me realise that sometimes fixed routines can hold me back, and that I should plan things based on my energy.
Sometimes, I need to re-energise before working. At other times, I need to relax after work.
It has made me reevaluate my work systems and create something more fluid.
This week’s prompts focus on embracing flexibility, noticing the shifts that occur when your environment changes, and learning to live with greater awareness, not just more structure.
This week’s prompts (Thursday - Sunday)
Reimagining Routine
1 - What assumptions about my lifestyle or habits have been challenged recently?
2 - How does stepping away or changing my routine for a few days help me see more clearly?
Rethinking Time
1 - What have I learned about how I spend (or waste) time?
2 - What does “a well-spent day” look like to me now?
Redefining Balance
1 - What does balance look like when work and rest happen on the same day?
2 - What rhythms or habits help me feel aligned with my values?
Get the most out of your journalling:
Choose one prompt: Focus on just one prompt each day to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
Be brutally honest: Reflect openly and honestly. This is your safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings.
Take your time: Sometimes it takes a few days to clarify your thinking. Here’s permission for you to take your time to unravel a prompt and not take on any new ones during that time.
Journal your way: Whether you prefer writing, audio recording, or video, choose the method that suits you best.
Don't stress about streaks: If you miss a day, don't worry. You can always revisit a previous prompt.
I’d love your feedback
