Friendships that stand the test of time

Daily Journal Prompts - 24 Sep 2024

My wife and I are on holiday in Japan.

Last night, we caught up with my high school friends who have settled here.

It was only the second time in 12 years that we’ve seen each other—the last being about six years ago.

Ours is the kind of friendship where we don’t stay in touch regularly, but when we meet, it’s like no time has passed.

We fall right back into easy conversations and laughter, just like the old days.

So, imagine my surprise when I found out that one of my friends got married during Covid—something I should’ve known and congratulated him for at the time.

This made me reflect on how important it is to stay connected.

We often focus on what’s in front of us and forget those outside our immediate vision.

Friendships like these are rare and valuable, and nurturing them more regularly is worth the effort.

That reflection inspired today’s prompts.
