Giving it everything you have

Daily Journal Prompts - 28 January 2025

Over the weekend, I was listening to a podcast featuring former footballer Gary Neville.

He said that the worst feeling a professional footballer (or anyone actually) can have is to end the match feeling that they did not give it their all.

The guilt and anger at yourself stays with you for days and weeks.

I think that applies to so many areas of life:

  • You feel dissatisfied if you don’t feel like you’ve given it your best at work

  • You feel guilty if you spend time with your family but in truth was distracted or on your phone for most of the time

  • Walking out of a job interview feeling upset that you didn’t prepare well for it

  • Finishing a workout session knowing you didn’t maximise your effort

  • Starting a business, but not focusing on the core goals, instead getting distracted by less important activities

The last point is especially close to me.

For my business to succeed, I need to spend time on the right things.

However, sometimes I find myself busy doing things that did not move the dial, and I have to catch myself and remember what the main goals are. After all, busy does not mean productive.

Today’s Prompts

Giving it everything you have

What does “giving it everything you have” mean to you personally? What are some areas in your life where you know you could try harder?

When was the last time you felt you didn’t give something your all? How did it make you feel?

How can you prepare mentally and physically to give your best in challenging situations?

Quote of the day

The 'If you don’t have time’ Prompt

What’s one way you can measure if you’re giving your all?

Get the most out of your journalling:

  • Choose one prompt: Focus on just one prompt each day to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

  • Be brutally honest: Reflect openly and honestly. This is your safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings.

  • Take your time: Sometimes it takes a few days to clarify your thinking. Here’s permission for you to take your time to unravel a prompt and not take on any new ones during that time.

  • Journal your way: Whether you prefer writing, audio recording, or video, choose the method that suits you best.

  • Don't stress about streaks: If you miss a day, don't worry. You can always revisit a previous prompt.

I’d love your feedback
