Growth at the age of 65

Daily Journal Prompts - 18 December 2025

My dad passed away about 2.5 years ago.

He and my mum were married for over 35 years.

He was the sole breadwinner, and she was a housewife. He used to manage all the finances and investments.

When dad passed, we were worried about my mum. My parents were staying in Kuala Lumpur, and with my dad’s passing, my mum’s visa would not get renewed.

Since then, she has continued to surprise and humble us with her resilience.

She has moved back to her home country and sorted out all the bank work. She decided to stay in our childhood home, managed the paperwork, and oversaw a complete apartment renovation.

She made my brother and I teach her how to use the computer, use banking apps, and protect herself from scams.

She doesn’t want to depend on us, and is embracing the challenge of learning new things at the ripe young age of 65.

It is incredibly inspiring.

It reminds us that growth is not confined by age. While it’s easy to think that life plateaus at a certain point, her courage to adapt and take control of her life proves otherwise.

If she can do it at 65, what’s stopping us from confronting our own limitations today?

The 'If you don’t have time’ Prompt

Who or what inspired you recently?

Get the most out of your journalling:

  • Choose one prompt: Focus on just one prompt each day to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

  • Be brutally honest: Reflect openly and honestly. This is your safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings.

  • Take your time: Sometimes it takes a few days to clarify your thinking. Here’s permission for you to take your time to unravel a prompt and not take on any new ones during that time.

  • Journal your way: Whether you prefer writing, audio recording, or video, choose the method that suits you best.

  • Don't stress about streaks: If you miss a day, don't worry. You can always revisit a previous prompt.

I’d love your feedback
