How are you guarding your energy?

Daily Journal Prompts - 20 January 2025

Energy management is one of those things that they never teach in school, yet is crucial to our happiness.

Spending time with people or doing things that are energy draining can make our lives miserable and vice-versa.

I feel like we spend so much time talking about productivity hacks to save a few minutes here and there but not enough time talking about how to live a holistic life.

And the key to that is in guarding your energy.

Last year, I did an energy audit — which is a fancy way of saving I rated my energy out of 10 through the day.

I found out that the most draining time of the day was during my evening commute.

I used to read on the way home and would be braindead by the time I arrived.

Perhaps I was mentally spent from work, so the additional use of my brain was too much.

Since then, I’ve switched my commute activity to listening to much, and it’s been a huge change.

I gain energy during this time.

I’ve also regained my love for new music. For the longest time, I only used to listen to rock music from the 60s - 80s.

Now I’m open to all kinds of music and look forward to the commute home because there’ the added excitement of discovering something new.

How are you guarding your energy?

Today’s Prompts

Guarding your energy

Make a list of all the activities and environments that drain my energy the most. How can I make these energy gaining, especially if they are something I can’t remove from my life (E.g. school, office)?

Who in my life feels like an energy vampire, and how can I limit my time with them?

How do I typically feel at the end of each day, and what contributes to that feeling?

The 'If you don’t have time’ Prompt

What’s one energy-draining task I can delegate or eliminate today?

Get the most out of your journalling:

  • Choose one prompt: Focus on just one prompt each day to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

  • Be brutally honest: Reflect openly and honestly. This is your safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings.

  • Take your time: Sometimes it takes a few days to clarify your thinking. Here’s permission for you to take your time to unravel a prompt and not take on any new ones during that time.

  • Journal your way: Whether you prefer writing, audio recording, or video, choose the method that suits you best.

  • Don't stress about streaks: If you miss a day, don't worry. You can always revisit a previous prompt.

I’d love your feedback
