I “can’t” cook
Daily Journal Prompts - 15 January 2025
In my marriage, my wife is the chief cook.
I used to cook a bit in my younger days but barely cooked anything in the last ten years.
The few times I’ve tried, the food has tasted average at best.
Recently, as my wife works a demanding full-time job and I spend more time as a home solopreneur, she asked if I could start meal-prepping so that we could eat healthy.
I immediately started making excuses — “I can’t cook. It won’t taste good. I forgot how to cook.”
She listened to me patiently and then said, “For someone who tells other people to stop using the word “can’t” you use it a lot when it comes to cooking.”
Ouch.
That was a slap in the face. I approached cooking with a limiting belief when I should have approached it as I approached everything else.
I decided to give it a go, see what happens, and improve from there.
It’s been a few weeks, and I’ve started cooking more regularly. Some of it even tastes decent.
Today’s Prompts
Limiting beliefs
What are some limiting beliefs you’ve held about yourself, and how have they shaped your decisions?
Reflect on a time when you pushed through a self-imposed limitation. What did you learn?
How does your attitude affect the way you approach challenges?

4 - The 'If you don’t have time’ Prompt
What is something you have told yourself you “can’t” do recently? Why?
Create a list of “I can” statements for areas where you usually say “I can’t.”
Get the most out of your journalling:
Choose one prompt: Focus on just one prompt each day to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
Be brutally honest: Reflect openly and honestly. This is your safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings.
Take your time: Sometimes it takes a few days to clarify your thinking. Here’s permission for you to take your time to unravel a prompt and not take on any new ones during that time.
Journal your way: Whether you prefer writing, audio recording, or video, choose the method that suits you best.
Don't stress about streaks: If you miss a day, don't worry. You can always revisit a previous prompt.
I’d love your feedback
