I love my friends. I also love when they leave the house.

Daily Journal Prompts - 11 April 2025

I’m not proud of this. But I won’t lie either.

I love having people over.

I love feeding them, laughing with them, talking about life, work, relationships, and the absolute randomness of the universe.

I genuinely enjoy their company.

But there is a special kind of silence that fills the house when they leave.

The kind that says, “Thank God, it’s just me again.”

It’s not that I don’t love my friends. I do.

But I also love closing the door, flopping onto the couch, and basking in the glorious return of solitude.

If you’ve ever hosted people and then immediately cleaned up with surprising enthusiasm just so you could enjoy a cup of tea in total silence, you know exactly what I mean.

So yes, I’ll keep inviting my friends over. I’ll keep hosting, laughing, eating, chatting.

And when they leave, I’ll do a quiet little fist pump in the kitchen. Because the party was great.

And now it’s just me, my wife and peace and quiet.

Today’s Prompts

1 - What does solitude give you that company doesn’t?

2 - What do you love most about your friends — and what do you love most about time without them?

3 - How do you define the difference between being lonely and being alone?

Get the most out of your journalling:

  • Choose one prompt: Focus on just one prompt each day to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

  • Be brutally honest: Reflect openly and honestly. This is your safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings.

  • Take your time: Sometimes it takes a few days to clarify your thinking. Here’s permission for you to take your time to unravel a prompt and not take on any new ones during that time.

  • Journal your way: Whether you prefer writing, audio recording, or video, choose the method that suits you best.

  • Don't stress about streaks: If you miss a day, don't worry. You can always revisit a previous prompt.

I’d love your feedback
