Keeping an open mind

Daily Journal Prompts - 11 March 2025

When I started my solopreneurship journey, I was fully committed.

No distractions. No detours. I wanted to pour all my energy into making it work.

To the extent that I’ve been turning down most opportunities that came my way, most of the time without even hearing them out.

But last week, a very close friend pitched me a short-term part-time consultancy role.

My first instinct was to say no, but when I stopped to think, I realised that the role ticked a lot of boxes:

  • It was aligned with my expertise while still being challenging and providing growth.

  • It fits my schedule and would take up just two days a week.

  • It finishes just before I launch one of my products.

So, when a part-time consultancy role came my way, my first instinct was to say no.

I wasn’t looking for it. I wasn’t planning for it. And, in my mind, it wasn’t part of the plan.

But, instead of shutting the door, I put my name in the hat.

And that’s when it hit me—sometimes, opportunities don’t show up the way we expect them to.

I had convinced myself that consultancy would be a distraction. But what if, instead, it was a complement?

What if instead of pulling me away from my solopreneurship path, it enhanced it?

This experience reminded me that keeping an open mind doesn’t mean saying yes to everything.

It means staying flexible enough to recognise when something aligns with your bigger vision, even if it wasn’t originally part of your plan.

Because the truth is that growth isn’t always linear. Sometimes, the best opportunities are the ones we almost walk away from.

I’ve probably missed a few opportunities because of my close-mindedness during the past few months.

So, what doors are open that you haven’t noticed yet?

Today’s Prompts

What criteria do you use to decide if an opportunity is worth pursuing?

Reflect on a time when you said yes to something unexpected—what did you gain?

How can you practice being more open to new possibilities? Is there a limiting belief that’s holding you back from considering new options?

Get the most out of your journalling:

  • Choose one prompt: Focus on just one prompt each day to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

  • Be brutally honest: Reflect openly and honestly. This is your safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings.

  • Take your time: Sometimes it takes a few days to clarify your thinking. Here’s permission for you to take your time to unravel a prompt and not take on any new ones during that time.

  • Journal your way: Whether you prefer writing, audio recording, or video, choose the method that suits you best.

  • Don't stress about streaks: If you miss a day, don't worry. You can always revisit a previous prompt.

I’d love your feedback
