Milestone check
Daily Journal Prompts - 4 November 2024
My wife and I started dating while working in the same office, albeit in different teams.
We were worried about any issues between us having a spillover into the workplace, so we created a biweekly “milestone check.”
This check-in became a safe space to openly address anything on our minds, prevent minor issues from escalating, and keep our relationship strong.
Here’s how it works:
Identify Yellow Flags: Share minor frustrations or concerns before they build up. These aren’t deal-breakers, but if ignored, they can negatively impact the relationship.
Examples: Taking things for granted; not doing household chores; low energy levels due to skipping exercise; work frustration leading to bad moods.
Address Red Flags: Highlight any urgent issues that could threaten the relationship. Red flags need immediate attention.
Examples: Financial issues straining the relationship; constantly late from work and unresponsive; showing resentment towards each other
Celebrate Green Flags: End with three positives. Acknowledging what’s working well helps reinforce strengths and maintain a positive outlook.
Examples: Making an extra effort to meet despite busy schedules; willingly spending time with each other’s family; saying thank you.
This approach can be applied to any area of life.
I now use it for weekly reflection in my solopreneurship journey, helping me stay proactive with challenges and appreciate successes.
Try it out!

These can be done individually or jointly with a partner:
1 - Identify Yellow Flags: Share minor frustrations or concerns before they build up. These aren’t deal-breakers, but if ignored, they can negatively impact the relationship or project.
2 - Address Red Flags: Highlight any urgent issues that could threaten the relationship or the project’s success. Red flags need immediate attention.
3 - Celebrate Green Flags: End with three positives. Acknowledging what’s working well helps reinforce strengths and maintain a positive outlook.
I’d love your feedback
