Missing my dad
Daily Journal Prompts - 3 November 2024
My dad passed away about 2.5 years ago from cancer.
Although some time has passed, it still feels very raw.
Sometimes during the day, I would come across something and think, “Wow, I can’t wait to show this to Dad”, and then it would hit me again, and I would go quiet.
I used to tend to bottle these emotions up, but I’ve learnt to express these thoughts by journaling, most specifically with this prompt:
“Reflect on a memory you cherish with someone dear who has passed away. What made that moment special?”
Now, 2.5 years later, thanks to this prompt, I am starting to build a nice collection of written memories about my dad.
Dealing with grief is difficult, but like it or not, life moves on. The best thing you can do is to celebrate the memories and lives your loved ones lived.
Today’s Prompts
1 - Celebrating life
Reflect on a memory I cherish with a loved one who has passed away. What made that moment special?
2 - Dealing with grief
Write a letter to a loved one, sharing what’s been happening in your life.
3 - Quote of the day
“Life is full of grief, to exactly the degree we allow ourselves to love other people.” - Orson Scott Card in Shadow of the Giant
4 - The 'If you don’t have time’ Prompt
How can I celebrate a loved one’s life and legacy today?
Get the most out of your journalling:
Choose one prompt: Focus on just one prompt each day to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
Be brutally honest: Reflect openly and honestly. This is your safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings.
Take your time: Sometimes it takes a few days to clarify your thinking. Here’s permission for you to take your time to unravel a prompt and not take on any new ones during that time.
Journal your way: Whether you prefer writing, audio recording, or video, choose the method that suits you best.
Don't stress about streaks: If you miss a day, don't worry. You can always revisit a previous prompt.
I’d love your feedback
