Daily Journal Prompts - 1 May 2025

I am glad to see the back of April.
I found it incredibly challenging.
I was on crutches for three weeks, travelling for two weeks (with the crutch at times!), got through my dad’s death anniversary and survived weeks in 40 degrees Celsius weather (that’s hot!).
Still, I just about completed everything I set out to do, spent time with my family and my rehab has been smooth so far.
The three big takeaways from my month are:
Anything can happen at any time: I’ve been running, going to the gym and playing sports. Still, I got injured while playing Pickleball and couldn’t walk properly for three weeks. The doctor said it’s because I don’t stretch enough, and he’s right. So, I’m not incorporating A LOT of stretching into my routine.
When plans get derailed, shift gears: The injury meant I would miss out on several planned activities and events. While I moped about it for a day, I quickly realised I couldn’t live like this and focused on what was in my control, like spending more time on my hobbies - reading and writing. I got through a record six books during this time!
Added stress to my routine: Yes, it sounds counterintuitive, but I work best when I’m under a bit of stress, whether it is time-bound or obligation-bound. Making those small changes has meant I’ve got work done faster and been more focused while working. Things that took me a day to do got done in a few hours.
May promises to be an exciting month. I’ll be back home and will soon start running again. I’m just a few months away from launching my board game business and will face different challenges, which I am excited to tackle.
Now, here are the prompts that I use every month to evaluate my progress and plan for the next month.
