My favourite bookstore

I visit my hometown every six months or so. On each trip, I always visit this one bookshop. Without fail, I purchase seven or eight books.

It’s not the largest bookshop. It’s not the cheapest bookshop.

But it’s the one I must go to. And that’s thanks to the love and dedication of the owner.

Every visit, he remembers what I bought last time. While I browse the shelves, he pulls together books I may be interested in for me to go through after I finish scanning.

This doesn’t increase the number of books I purchase. If I select a book from his list, I remove one from mine. In fact, it is more work for him because he has to put back the books I have set aside.

This small gesture of hospitality keeps me loyal. There are bigger and less expensive bookstores in town, but none offer the personal touch and care that this one does.

It’s humbling to see someone go above and beyond for you. It always makes me think of others for whom I can do more.

And that’s the inspiration for today’s prompts.

Today’s Prompts

1 - Thoughtfulness

How can you go the extra mile to foster deeper connections with someone you love?

2 - Self-reflection

What does “going above and beyond” mean to you, and how do you apply it daily?

3 - Quote of the day

“You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” - Mahatma Gandhi

4 - The 'If you don’t have time’ Prompt

What one thing can you do to make someone happy today?

Get the most out of your journalling:

  • Choose one prompt: Focus on just one prompt each day to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

  • Be brutally honest: Reflect openly and honestly. This is your safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings.

  • Take your time: Sometimes it takes a few days to clarify your thinking. Here’s permission for you to take your time to unravel a prompt and not take on any new ones during that time.

  • Journal your way: Whether you prefer writing, audio recording, or video, choose the method that suits you best.

  • Don't stress about streaks: If you miss a day, don't worry. You can always revisit a previous prompt.

I’d love your feedback
