Review your year: Setting goals for 2025
Daily Journal Prompts - 20 December 2024
This is episode #12 of the ‘Review your Year’ series.
If you’ve missed the previous episodes, I recommend you read this article outlining the entire process.
Today, you will identify two or three goals for EACH area of your life — Career & work, Health & fitness, Relationships, Personal growth, Finances, and Fun & joy.
Be as specific as possible, including how you will measure progress.
I’ve listed some examples in the prompts section below as a guide.
Once you have your list of goals, I want you to stop right there.
You’ll need to cut down your list of goals to focus on to just 4 or 5 goals, with at least one focused on a Money Goal and one focused on a Health & Fitness Goal.
These two pillars are non-negotiable because they can destabilise everything you are working towards if they are not taken care of.
The remaining 2–3 goals should align with your theme. Only add a new goal when you complete an existing goal.
If you are unsure which to select, ask yourself, “Does this goal move me closer to achieving my theme for the year?”
And remember, some goals may only indirectly align with your theme but act as foundational support to maintain balance and stability.
For example, one of my goals this year was to spend more quality time with my wife.
While this didn’t directly align with my theme of “launching online products,” it kept me mentally and emotionally balanced and gave me a sounding board for my ambitions.
Indirectly, it became one of the most crucial goals of the year.
You’re now nearly at the end of your 2024 Review and 2025 Planning journey. One last step remains, where you put together an Action Plan.
More on that in the next issue.
Setting your goals for 2025
Step 1 - List down 2 - 3 goals for each pillar of life: Career & Work, Health & Fitness, Relationships, Personal Growth, Finances, Fun & Joy.
Step 2 - Review your list and prioritise only 4 or 5 goals. At least one goal should be a Money Goal and one should be a Health & Fitness Goal. The remaining 2 - 3 should align with or support your theme.
Examples:
Career and work:
Launch a side hustle that generates $10k in revenue.
Earn a certification to boost your skills.
Health and fitness:
Consistently achieve 10,000 steps daily (at least 6 times a week).
Lower cholesterol levels through a balanced diet (until they reach a healthy range).
Relationships:
Schedule bi-weekly date nights with your partner.
Initiate frequent check-ins with your friends and family.
Personal growth:
Read 26 books a year (one every two weeks) across diverse genres.
Start a journaling habit.
Finances:
Pay off exploding credit card debt.
Save 20% of your income every month to build a safety net.
Fun & joy:
Explore two new countries.
Build better boundaries so as not to bring work stress into personal spaces.
I’d love your feedback.
