Service is remembered

Daily Journal Prompts - 16 February 2025

Before visiting Portugal, I had never associated the Portuguese with exceptional service.

Granted, the only Portuguese friend I have has never actually lived in Portugal.

During our trip, we have been met with tons of situations where someone has gone beyond expectations to deliver a superior service:

  • Our Uber driver gave us advice on visiting an attraction and dropped us off in a different place from what we had keyed in because we hadn’t bought tickets yet.

  • Our hotel staff wrote out a personalised message with our names on it.

  • Restaurant staff tell us when we are over-ordering, even though they will earn less.

These are just a few examples, but there have ben too many to list.

It’s made our visit to Portugal delightful.

And let me to reflect on my own behaviour — how can I go the extra mile to help people?

Because at the moment, I don’t. I often do the bare minimum required, and frankly, that’s not what I want to be known for.

How you treat people is reflective of how others will treat you.

Today’s Prompts

How do you want to be remembered by those you interact with? How can you go the extra mile in your interactions with others?

If you could create a personal "service philosophy," what would it be?

I’d love your feedback
