Setting expectations upfront
Daily Journal Prompts - 27 January 2025
My wife and I have a long holiday coming up soon.
We’re both really excited for it and have been spending time planning itineraries, booking hotels and most importantly, shortlisting food spots.
Yesterday, while enjoying a morning walk, my wife forewarned that there could be times during our holiday where she has to attend to work.
Generally, I have a zero tolerance policy when it comes to working on holidays.
But in this case, after she explained why, I understand the necessity.
A simple 10-minute chat saved hours of frustration during the holiday.
It led me to reflect — how many issues can be solved with better expectation-setting and communication?
Discuss major purchases and decisions with your partner or family before you make them
Letting friends know to let you know early if they will be late
Setting boundaries early about how long you plan to stay at a social event
Setting an agenda before a meeting so that everyone is aligned
Today’s prompts are to reflect on our communication styles.
