Starting from scratch ... and that’s ok

Daily Journal Prompts - 26 May 2025

When I wondered where I would be at the age of 37 career-wise, it definitely wouldn’t have been starting from scratch.

But when I started working on my board game, I had to accept a hard truth:

No one in the industry knew who I was. And no one I knew was in the industry.

After years of building a professional reputation in other industries, I found myself starting from scratch again.

I’d be lying if I said it didn’t sting. I thought I had graduated from the networking hustle.

But here I am, once again introducing myself to strangers, reaching out cold, attending events, asking questions, putting myself out there.

And slowly, almost magically, things have started to move.

My view on starting from scratch has changed through this experience.

I don’t see it as a setback anymore. It’s a reset. A new opportunity to prove yourself, not just to others, but to yourself too.

So if you’re in a season of starting over, whether by choice or by circumstance, I hope today’s prompts remind you: this isn’t square one. It’s step one.

This Week’s Prompts (Monday - Wednesday)

1 - What’s something I’m afraid to try because I’ll be a beginner again?

2 - How do I usually react when I lose my status, position, or sense of control?

3 - What’s one conversation I had recently that stuck with me, and why?

4 - What kind of people do I want to surround myself with in my current season of life?

Get the most out of your journalling:

  • Choose one prompt: Focus on just one prompt each day to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

  • Be brutally honest: Reflect openly and honestly. This is your safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings.

  • Take your time: Sometimes it takes a few days to clarify your thinking. Here’s permission for you to take your time to unravel a prompt and not take on any new ones during that time.

  • Journal your way: Whether you prefer writing, audio recording, or video, choose the method that suits you best.

  • Don't stress about streaks: If you miss a day, don't worry. You can always revisit a previous prompt.

I’d love your feedback
