Systemising your life

Daily Journal Prompts - 6 February 2025

In a few weeks time, my wife and I are going on a holiday.

As we finalise our bookings and start thinking about the clothes we bring, the process reminded me of something I had embarked on a few years ago, but had abandoned for lack of time.

A few years ago, I had set out to build systems for different areas of life, starting with travel.

It was inspired by multiple travel mishaps — forgetting my toiletries, not packing underwear, leaving things on a flight.

I put in a lot of effort to create a fool-proof system for each part of my travel.

I had detailed checklists for what to pack (for different weathers and types of holidays), what to check for before leaving the house (including my passport and phone), where to keep my stuff on the flight, what to check before leaving the flight, etc.

It was a big one-time effort, but I’ve never had any problems since then, and traveling has been a breeze.

I think it’s time to spend more time designing systems for key areas of my life. It saves your brain power, time and effort, letting you focus on things that matter.

That’s the inspiration for today’s prompts.

Today’s Prompt

What’s one part of my life that feels chaotic or disorganised? How can I build a system around it to make it organised and easy?

I’d love your feedback
