Tennis Leg - When plans fall apart
Daily Journal Prompts - 31 March 2025
Yesterday, while playing Pickleball, I was chasing the ball when I suddenly felt like someone had thrown something at my calf.
I turned around—no one had thrown anything.
Two steps later, I couldn’t walk.
At first glance, it looks like a calf tear, also known as Tennis Leg.
I’ll get a scan in a few days once the swelling goes down, but one thing is certain—I’m out of action for a while.
That’s annoying. I had plans for the long weekend, things lined up for the upcoming weeks, and I was training for a half marathon.
But after the frustration settled, I started thinking—what now?
I could sit here annoyed and frustrated at the loss of momentum or ask myself a better question: How can I make the most of this unexpected downtime?
Life rarely goes according to plan.
A single injury, a setback at work, an unexpected event—things can unravel in an instant.
But the real test isn’t in what happens to us; it’s in how we respond.
So, here’s my approach: Instead of dwelling on what I can’t do, I’ll focus on what I can do.
More reading. More writing. Thinking more about what’s next for my projects. Maybe even some deep work I haven’t had time for because I’ve been too caught up in moving around.
If I use this downtime well, I won’t just recover—I’ll return stronger.
Today’s Prompts
1 - If you reframed a current obstacle as an opportunity, what could you gain from it?
2 - What does your frustration about unexpected setbacks reveal about your relationship with control?
3 - If a recent challenge had been permanent, how would it change your priorities?
Get the most out of your journalling:
Choose one prompt: Focus on just one prompt each day to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
Be brutally honest: Reflect openly and honestly. This is your safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings.
Take your time: Sometimes it takes a few days to clarify your thinking. Here’s permission for you to take your time to unravel a prompt and not take on any new ones during that time.
Journal your way: Whether you prefer writing, audio recording, or video, choose the method that suits you best.
Don't stress about streaks: If you miss a day, don't worry. You can always revisit a previous prompt.
I’d love your feedback
