The grass is greener on the other side

Daily Journal Prompts - 23 January 2025

The other day, I met a friend for dinner.

We were talking about how our lives have changed and I remarked, “My life is so boring now. I miss the hustle and bustle of being in an office.”

And he reminded me that most people are tired of their jobs and crave ‘boring’.

That’s true. People tend to think the grass is greener on the other side, but they often forget that it could be just as bad or worse than where they are now.

This emotional nature of ours makes decision-making difficult. Thinking rationally takes time and effort.

After taking a few days to reflect, he’s right.

I would rather live the life and freedom I have today as a solopreneur than work for someone else.

Today’s prompts are designed to help you reflect on the idea of the grass being greener on the other side.

Today’s Prompts

Prompts about comparisons

How can you shift your mindset from comparison to gratitude?

How does romanticising other people’s lives or situations impact your happiness?

When have you fallen into the trap of thinking the grass was greener? What did you learn?

Before making big changes, how can you test assumptions about “better” options?

The 'If you don’t have time’ Prompt

What are three decisions you need to make in the next week?

Get the most out of your journalling:

  • Choose one prompt: Focus on just one prompt each day to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

  • Be brutally honest: Reflect openly and honestly. This is your safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings.

  • Take your time: Sometimes it takes a few days to clarify your thinking. Here’s permission for you to take your time to unravel a prompt and not take on any new ones during that time.

  • Journal your way: Whether you prefer writing, audio recording, or video, choose the method that suits you best.

  • Don't stress about streaks: If you miss a day, don't worry. You can always revisit a previous prompt.

I’d love your feedback
