The power of collective goals

Daily Journal Prompts - 10 March 2025

This past weekend, some friends (all ex-colleagues) and I completed a 100 km overnight relay run (a race that collectively raised S$1 million for cancer care and research).

Twelve of us took turns running in shifts through the night, pushing through lack of sleep and hot, humid weather.

My wife and I split the final 18 km, crossing the finish line with a few others who stayed back until the end.

It was about shared effort, accountability, and the power of a collective goal.

Some reflections I had after the run:

  1. Accountability drove us: Quite a few of my teammates were not runners but joined to support one another. Every single person showed up and played their part, ensuring we finished one hour ahead of our initial planned timing.

  2. Achievements feel bigger when shared: Completing the 100 km was not just a celebration about running and endurance; it was about friendship, teamwork, mutual encouragement and strengthening bonds. It made completing the challenge feel much sweeter.

Looking beyond running, I want to see how I can apply these principles of collective accountability to other areas of my life, such as building a new habit or when I’m feeling uninspired or struggling with my business.

Today’s Prompts

What’s are some ways you can apply the power of collective goals in your life right now?

What role do accountability and teamwork play in your personal success?

How can collective challenges help you step out of your comfort zone and overcome self-doubt?

Get the most out of your journalling:

  • Choose one prompt: Focus on just one prompt each day to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

  • Be brutally honest: Reflect openly and honestly. This is your safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings.

  • Take your time: Sometimes it takes a few days to clarify your thinking. Here’s permission for you to take your time to unravel a prompt and not take on any new ones during that time.

  • Journal your way: Whether you prefer writing, audio recording, or video, choose the method that suits you best.

  • Don't stress about streaks: If you miss a day, don't worry. You can always revisit a previous prompt.

I’d love your feedback
