Two faces of life
Daily Journal Prompts - 18 March 2025
Last week I met an acquaintance I haven’t seen in close to ten years, although we have quite a few mutual friends.
From the outside, his life looks perfect — great job, happy family, exciting social life.
But, when we met, it was a completely different situation.
His life was in the pits. His wife’s family is heavily involved in his life, dictating how their child should be raised. The constant interference led to daily arguments.
Home no longer feels like one. Instead of being a place of rest, it became a place of stress.
Hearing this, I felt for him. No one wants to feel like a spectator in their own life.
It made me reflect — how many of us are living lives that don’t feel like our own?
How often do we let expectations, family pressure, or circumstances dictate how we live?
And what would I do when I feel powerless in life? How could I reclaim control, set boundaries and take meaningful steps towards living the life that feels right for me.
Today’s Prompts
1 - In what areas of your life do you feel like you don’t have full control? What expectations—family, society, work—are shaping your life decisions?
2 - Have you ever felt trapped in a situation? How did you handle it?
3 - What steps can you take today to reclaim ownership and control of your life?
I’d love your feedback
