Review your Year: What were the three most difficult things you went through this year?

Daily Journal Prompts - 24 November 2024

As part of my year-end routine, I spend a few journaling sessions from mid-November onwards reflecting on the year. This is episode #1 in the ‘Review your year’ series. The other issues are here.

We are just 38 days away from 1 Jan.

The year is passing very quickly, but then again, I think that every year :)

From now until the end of the year, you will receive a series of prompts designed to help you reflect on your year and start planning for the new year.

Some people like to do their entire year in review in one massive half-day session.

I prefer doing it progressively, starting at the end of November and aiming to wrap everything up by X’Mas so that I enjoy the holiday season and I am clear on what’s expected of me come 1 January.

There is no right or wrong approach.

Today’s prompt kicks off the Year in Review. My first step is to reflect on the difficult phases of life and what I learnt from them.

For me, these are grappling with the aftermath of my father’s death and his absence from our lives, being stuck in a job I didn’t enjoy for the first six months of the year, and completing a half marathon.

It’s a therapeutic experience that allows you to gain some semblance of closure on these topics, take the lessons learned into the new year, and emerge stronger than ever.

Year in Review Prompt #1

What were the three most difficult things you went through this year? What did you learn through the process?

I’d love your feedback
