When the rules change mid-game

Daily Journal Prompts - 9 April 2025

The news of sweeping new U.S. tariffs on imported goods hit me like a jolt.

As someone about to launch a board game that’s manufactured in China and targeted largely at the U.S. market, the implications are massive.

Costs will go up. Margins will shrink. And the hill just got a lot steeper to climb.

At first, I felt helpless.

Angry. Frustrated.

It’s hard when something completely outside your control threatens to derail something you’ve poured years into.

But after the initial wave passed, I noticed something unexpected: I felt alive.

There’s something electric for me about knowing the stakes have been raised.

That you’re no longer just working toward a dream, you’re fighting for it.

And that pressure? It sharpens my senses.

It makes me think more clearly.

This challenge isn’t a sign to stop. It’s a sign to push harder. To be smarter.

And that feeling of being tested? I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Today’s Prompts

1 - What’s something you’re working on that’s been affected by forces outside your control?

2 - How do you typically respond to feeling helpless? What helps you shift out of that mindset?

3 - What’s a past challenge that initially felt defeating but ended up making you stronger?

Get the most out of your journalling:

  • Choose one prompt: Focus on just one prompt each day to avoid feeling overwhelmed.

  • Be brutally honest: Reflect openly and honestly. This is your safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings.

  • Take your time: Sometimes it takes a few days to clarify your thinking. Here’s permission for you to take your time to unravel a prompt and not take on any new ones during that time.

  • Journal your way: Whether you prefer writing, audio recording, or video, choose the method that suits you best.

  • Don't stress about streaks: If you miss a day, don't worry. You can always revisit a previous prompt.

I’d love your feedback
