Who or what is your villain?
Daily Journal Prompts - 6 January 2025
Today’s prompt is a handy exercise to help you get rid of people or things that are holding you back.
I, along with millions of people, used to struggle with excessive screen time and doom-scrolling.
I knew it was a problem and I tried all sorts of things to counter it — turned my phone on greyscale, put limits on apps, enforced a delay on opening — but nothing stuck over the long run.
Then one day, I came across this prompt:
Who or what is your villain? How will you win the war?
While reflecting, I reframed my phone as my villain.
Just that simple reframing made me change my habits. I started to feel disgusted when I find myself on social media.
My screen time is down to less than 3 hours, which is a perfect amount for me as I still use it for research, text, catching up with people, and watching youtube podcasts while I’m doing chores around the house.
I’m not surprised at the sudden shift. After all, who likes to lose to their villain?

The 'If you don’t have time’ Prompt
What’s one step you can take to win against your villain this week?
Get the most out of your journalling:
Choose one prompt: Focus on just one prompt each day to avoid feeling overwhelmed.
Be brutally honest: Reflect openly and honestly. This is your safe space to explore your thoughts and feelings.
Take your time: Sometimes it takes a few days to clarify your thinking. Here’s permission for you to take your time to unravel a prompt and not take on any new ones during that time.
Journal your way: Whether you prefer writing, audio recording, or video, choose the method that suits you best.
Don't stress about streaks: If you miss a day, don't worry. You can always revisit a previous prompt.
I’d love your feedback
